Help Us Get Oakland City Support

UCP COMMUNITY: WE NEED YOUR HELP TO GET SUPPORT FROM THE CITY

UCP has been relentlessly trying to clean up our neighborhoods and build sustainable, community-driven solutions, from organizing volunteer cleanups to mutual aid distribution to launching our Homeless Ambassador Program. And all this on our own with no support from the City of Oakland.

But now we’re making a push to secure formal support from the city, and to do this we need your help.

It’s simple: click the link for your representative below and hit send on a pre-written email. Let your local leaders know you back UCP and want the city to partner with us. Join us in making sure this work gets the official support it deserves.

Dear X,

I’m writing to ask you to support the Urban Compassion Project, UCP, in their campaign to clean up Oakland. I have spent the past month volunteering with UCP to remove waste from underserved and neglected parts of our city. UCP hosts weekday and weekend cleanups every week.

UCP has restored neighborhoods from Mandela to Fruitvale. They have removed over 80 tons of waste in May alone, at an average cost of $221 per ton removed. All while building community and civic duty in Oakland.

Please consider amending the budget to include funding for grassroots organizations like UCP instead of investing more money in teams too thin to be responsive and effective. We do not have enough money to staff these teams fully, but we do have enough money to provide the necessary cleanup and beautification services the city needs if we invest in and encourage civic duty. We need a safer and cleaner city TODAY and UCP will help get us there.

Impact:
– Total tons removed since 2021: 2,200+ tons.
– Total tons removed in 2025: 170+ tons
– Total cost of clearing trash in 2025: $37,687.43
– Total tons removed in May 2025: 80+ tons
– Cost per ton with dumpster rental/operator/dump fees based on 2025 data: $221

– Cost per ton without dumpster rental/operator/dump fees based on 2025 data: $42
