We’re building this pop-up with partners across clothing, promotion, and funding. We hope there’s a role sized for you!

Volunteer with us
The shop is open one day a week and it takes a full crew to run: greeters at the door, floor guides helping shoppers find their size, and folks sorting and restocking between time slots. Compassion Threads brings together volunteers, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations, and turns giving into a shared community experience.
What helps us most is consistency. We’re specifically looking for people who can commit to one three-hour shift a week rather than dropping in occasionally. A crew that knows the space and knows each other makes the whole day run better, and it means shoppers see familiar faces.
If you’re a student with service hours to complete, or you’re in a program with a volunteer requirement, this is a great fit. A standing weekly shift adds up fast and we’re happy to sign off on hours.
No experience needed. We’ll walk you through everything on your first shift. Email info@urbancompassionproject.org and tell us which Wednesdays work for you.
Clothing and in-kind donations
Are you a brand, store, or individual with clothing to spare? We’re looking for partners excited about donating clothes for us to distribute through the pop-up. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and make a real difference with your excess inventory. We’re also happy to accept other in-kind donations to support the initiative.
Our soft launch showed us exactly where the gaps are. A number of people came through with babies and young children, and we had nothing for them. So the things we’re most actively looking for are:
- Women’s clothing
- Toddler and baby clothing
- Children’s clothing in all sizes
- Shoes, in any size
- Warm layers as the weather turns
Redirecting unsold stock to a free shop is a better ending than a landfill, it’s tax deductible, and we’ll tell you exactly where it went. Email info@urbancompassionproject.org to talk about a donation.
Do you want to help fund this undertaking?
We’re looking for donors who want to support our mission and help cover the labor and overhead that goes into making this happen. We are in particular looking for sponsors to help with security costs.
We’re open to many levels of support, and happy to talk through what a partnership could look like for you. We want to work with you, and are happy to offer visibility and support in return, including recognition in the space, on our site, and across our channels.
Urban Compassion Project is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. EIN 86-2807260. Contributions are tax deductible.
Promotional partners
Are you interested in helping bring attention to our store? We want to get the word out and help as many people as possible access the resources we have to share, so if you have a community you can connect us with or an audience you can help promote us to, we’d love to work with you! We’re interested in general promotion as well as teaming up on specific events in the space.
If you run an organization serving people who could use free clothing, we can also set aside a session for your group. We’ve done this already and it works well.
1420 Broadway is a real storefront with room in it, and we’re building toward regular activations with music, food, and partners. We hope to add you to our list of collaborators too!
Email info@urbancompassionproject.org and tell us what you have in mind.
We hope to bring more joy and generosity to the world with your support!
